You know there’s something wrong when getting a takeaway coffee becomes the highlight of your morning. It became the highlight of my morning mid-2022, a few months after my second baby was born. I found myself waddling a double-pram to the park each morning and proceeding to sit and with my eyes trained on a toddler who required constant observation lest he trip and the world end. So, in the interest of keeping those eyes open, I started making sure I got coffee on the way. Then I wanted to make sure I got better coffee on the way. And most of the time I’d been too busy feeding everyone else porridge to eat anything myself, so the banana bread was a logical addition to fuel my role as “park facilitator”.
To keep my mind active while I sat and watched, I started keeping track of how much I liked that morning’s coffee/banana bread combo. My rating system was not complicated: -1 (☹), 0 (😐), 1 (☺). My mushy baby brain wasn’t capable of much more than that, but it was capable of keeping a long list of ratings in a spreadsheet and before long, I felt my findings needed to be shared with the world.
You could say I’m on a quest to find the best coffee and banana bread in Sydney. Since I’m a Newtown local, I automatically assume Sydney = Newtown, and I’m unashamedly sceptical that I’m going to find anything better anywhere else. Hey “rest of Sydney”, prove me wrong. But practically, this did all start on foot between my house and the park, so of course I’m going to start with my immediate locale and gradually work my way further afield.
So please enjoy my very simple blog with its very simple premise and I wish you plenty of “1, 1” experiences.
