Store Espresso is the real deal – an authentic example of well-executed local cafe culture. Store has a wide-ranging menu, is very accommodating to individual requests and delivers very personalised service. The owner is a bit of a character and a recognised local who really understands his targeted audience and knows how to work Store’s fantastic parkside location, with its catered “picnic service”. Simply take a blanket and the friendly staff will bring your food out to you in the park.
Store is great, but it’s an everyday kind of place, not a “come-from-out-of-area-because-you-have-to-try-it” kind of place. If Camperdown Park is your draw card, come here, but it’s not the haute cuisine of coffee. That said, Store is by no means my closest cafe, but it’s still my regular weekend go-to for food, coffee and social vibes.
It probably goes without saying then, that the coffee is satisfying indeed. It’s such a relief when you first sip that coffee and it’s good rather than “meh”. Store = good. Not mindblowing, but definitely a cut above average, and deserving of a 1. And the BB ranges from good to fantastic. Baked in house, just like everything else (though they sometimes stock Infinity pies or brownies, and attribute the source when they do), there’s some natural variation from loaf to loaf, but for the most part it’s moist and chock full of banana. With their humble approach to good food and coffee, I feel like Store should really be the standard for what you’d expect. This should be average, but in today’s cafe climate, Store is a rare gem.
