For a cafe without a shopfront in the centre island of a shopping mall, Sorrel has a pretty amazing location. Sorrel floats in the middle of the top floor, with nothing but an arched glass ceiling and blue sky above. It’s also strangely quiet, suitably distanced from the majority of the hustle and bustle rushing about on the lower floors. With its gazebo-style steel frame mimicking Broadway’s own centre-spanning top-floor feature, it not only fits the space seamlessly, but its hanging plants and bright, airy style give the whole floor a natural, garden vibe. Conveniently (but not audibly) close to the indoor play area, Sorrel is like an oasis, providing a blissful escsape from whatever reason you have to be at Broadway. But beauty isn’t everything. Their coffee was unfortunately underwhelming, failing to deliver much of a unique flavour, although it was executed as well as I’ve generally come to expect. The BB had a large portion size, but it was a little bit cakey and lacking in fresh banana flavour. The coffee and BB weren’t bad, but not good enough to keep coming back for, which is a shame because it would have been really convenient to just shortcut straight to the top floor and on to the playground! I’d love to come here on my own, without the babies, to soak up the ambience of the place, but I wouldn’t stop by here on a regular basis for my takeaway.
