Waiting outside the familiar cafe at 212 Australia St, my eyes absent-mindedly wandered over the white-lettered logo in the window: 212 Blu presents Cafe Loggerhead… what? How long has it been Cafe Loggerhead without me noticing? 212 Blu has been one of my local faves for years and since they’ve always stocked Loggerhead beans, I’m guessing this is just a step in the direction of that same partnership. I’m glad to see the staff are all the same, but the menu on the wall is gone – hopefully this isn’t a foreshadowing of things to come because I love their food menu. Fortunately, they still do their Boss Roll, but there’s no time for it today – the babies are already grumpy from the wait for the coffee, which always takes forever, but is always fantastic.
Thank goodness the BB is still the same. Supplied by Brickfields, I think of it as the “eye fillet steak” of BBs, not just because it’s succulent and delicious, but because it literally is about the same size and thickness as an eye fillet steak. Juicy, tasty, small in size and thick-cut, but not too dense, and the banana along the top crust has that fresh-baked bursting banana flavour. With just the right amount of sweetness and plenty of spices, this is BB perfection.
