I’ve had the wrong impression about this place for years. Sleek, black and always kinda closed-looking, Barmuda looked to me like an overpriced posh brunch place, and not necessarily the kind of place you’d stop by with a pram for a takeaway coffee and BB. Nope! Once you cross that ‘closed off’ threshold, it opens up into a warm, rustic-style cafe inside. I was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming service and friendly atmosphere. But upon closer inspection, the food menu was uncharacteristically down to earth. And very cheap. My coffee and BB came in under $10. This isn’t a bad thing, but it certainly hints at cost-effective new management. Again, not a bad thing itself, but it could be. I was a little sceptical, but the coffee would tell. Unfortunately, it was bitter! It positively reeked of overextraction. At least it wasn’t weak and milky, which seems to be the more common fault. The BB, on the other hand, was a mighty thing to behold. It was heavy to hold in your hand. Very dense, very moist, very decadent. It was almost like eating a warm stick of butter mixed with banana and cake. Imagine if I’d ordered it with butter! I couldn’t finish it. On one hand I was like “this is incredible” but on the other hand I was like “this is ridiculous”. Definitely a ‘sometimes’ BB. But big points for the texture, consistency and real banana flavour – I’ve never had anything quite like it.
