Wanting the closest possible coffee that wasn’t from Cordial, I walked the extra 20m to Beloli. Worth it. The friendly barista greeted me with a big smile and friendly chit chat. Who does that anymore? These guys. Given its proximity to RPAH, Beloli is clearly targeting the lunch rush of hospital workers (I’m pretty sure it’s literally the closest proper cafe that isn’t inside the hospital or part of Sydney Uni) and they certainly work this to their advantage with quick service, a decent takeaway menu, good value for money and a lot of charisma. But beyond enjoying my brief time there, I don’t really have much to say. The coffee was fine. It didn’t blow my mind, but I’ve certainly had worse. The banana bread also had a very familiar donutty flavour, which you sometimes get when a mass-produced BB is artificially flavoured and over-sweet, with a lot of cinnamon and a bit of grease on the toaster. It’s not too bad, but I really feel like a BB should taste like real banana, and the greasy thing is a bit of turn-off. That said, if you’re ever at RPAH, it’s a pretty safe bet that Beloli won’t let you down.
