This is the cafe at Newtown’s Dendy Cinema. It’s been here forever, and has a very iconic Newtown vibe, but it has never really been what I would consider “good”. It has a decent enough menu, but when your food arrives, it kinda feels like it’s hitting a bit of a flat note. Everything entices, but nothing pops. Their coffee was over-extracted and watery, but in all fairness, the little barista looked like she should’ve been tearing ticket stubs rather than operating an espresso machine. Not all waitstaff can barist. The BB tasted house-baked, but it really should not have been. It was the kind of BB I’m likely to bake at home: not sweet enough, small, crumbly and defintely not “cafe-style”. Too bad, because Cinque definitely has a winning location and really could be a hub for both coffee and cinema snobs.
