Mmmm, these guys sometimes do a pumpkin bread. It’s sweet, a little zesty and nicely spiced. Blacktoast has a fantastic food menu and a beautiful seating area with full-length windows and a nice view (somehow, in suburban Annandale). But Blacktoast seemed to go through some sort of shift recently. The menu changed a little (for the worse), but only slightly, and all the cool, shabby-chic seating and tables that so beautifully complemented the local art on the walls was subbed out for standard, plain, comfortable stuff that looked like it belonged in an RSL club. They wouldn’t be the first cool cafe to clean up their grungy antique vibe, though I find this clean and minimal trend errs on the side of boringness and dullary. But shift aside, Blacktoast’s barista is still a seasoned pro serving excellent coffee. My flat white is fantastic, and my banana bread certainly doesn’t disappoint, though it doesn’t have the same unique appeal as the pumpkin bread.
