Flour Drum’s Christmas bakery treats, which I was there purchasing, are absolutely phenomenal. I’d been there once before, at Easter, when they had little baby bunnies in a hutch out the back. You could hold them, so I took the kids for a fun outing. The courtyard and garden is eclectically styled and very cool. Today, the coffee was perfectly on point – Flour Drum is definitely a cafe that knows what it’s doing, which is why the BB was such a surprise. Wide, flat and thin with a crumbly texture and a wholemeal-flour flavour. There was enough banana in it, but the bread itself needed to be sweeter. I was tasting baked banana in one mouthful (but not even the good, juicy kind) and a plain floury batter in the next. The crust just tasted like baked salted butter off the pan. Disappointing. Like church, looks like I’ll just be back here for Christmas and Easter.
