Today, I went back to my lil’ ol’ hometown. A tiny island of a suburb, Killarney Heights is almost like a little untouched time capsule from the 1960s, having been largely undeveloped. The houses are still on large blocks of land with plenty of space in between, which I find remarkable since in Newtown I can hear my neighbours speaking through the walls. Everything has been very nicely renovated, but there’s not a high-rise in sight. In this secluded little suburb, there’s a secluded little group of shops, whose only customers are literally Killarney Heights residents. Despite this, there were multiple cafes to choose from, so I did an eeny-meeny-miny-mo and ended up at Farm Bethel.
My expectations weren’t especially high, so I guess I wasn’t disappointed. I deliberated a little over whether or not the definitely-not-great coffee was bad enough to warrant a -1, but settled on it being more or less average. The BB was small, but nice enough, and generally unremarkable. Given this is well and truly “the burbs” and not a high-traffic consumer zone, Farm Bethel is actually quite nice. It’s quiet, pretty, the service is polite and the fare is good enough that I was happy my “mo” landed here.
