I had a bad experience here a couple of years ago where I was waiting an unreasonably long time for a sub-par takeaway coffee, so my expectations today were not high. They could badly do with an interior refurbishment: there was a broken oven sitting on some stools right next to the customer side of the counter, peeling stickers in the window, a crooked-hanging lightbox in the centre of the room and the whole place smelled of fryer oil and paint. And then there was a gaming chair sitting behind the espresso machine… for sitting around, I assume, because there are no customers. Not a good look. Not a good coffee either. The banana bread was ok, probably because they didn’t bake it in house. A cafe that doesn’t hold high standards for the way it presents itself is unlikely to have high standards regarding its food, and Chim Cham is a very clear case in point.
