I discovered this little gem by accident, while taking an alternative route to my favourite park. It was like coming up on an oasis: “Ooooh laneway coffee!” Newtown laneways have a whole vibe of their own, and AP Town looks like it’s belonged perfectly nestled right here since the very beginning. How long has it actually been here? These are the guys from the Paramount rooftop, right? It’s no surprise, then, that they’re serving Reuben Hills coffee, since one of the founders of Paramount Coffee Project is that Reuben Hills guy. Or maybe the connection is purely coincidental, I don’t know, I’m starting to sound like a conspicracy theorist: “It’s all connected, man.” I bet everyone who knows how to successfully negotiate the Sydney coffee scene IS connected, and they all hang out together and have amazing parties.
Anyway, I sipped my secret laneway coffee and it bombarded my mouth with an unexpected punch of amazingness. That’s when I glanced back towards the espresso machine and saw a Reuben Hills logo – yep, that explains it. I remember hanging out in RH years ago, flipping through my newsfeed, eyeing off their roaster majiggy and smelling some awesome smells.
Looking around for what I hoped would be the best BB of my life, I settled for a macadamia, honey and thyme croissant, which I have to say was the best croissant of my life. These guys know how to bakery.
