Vibrant and welcoming, Buddha Bowl really brightens up the shady-looking intersection of Enmore Rd and Station St, where Newtown has pretty much ended but Enmore hasn’t quite kicked into gear yet. The interior decor is rustic but sleek with warm lighting and lots of indoor plants. The plants are tidy and tasteful (you’d be surprised how often I see them all over the place, ramshackle and poorly tended) and they give a really fresh, luscious kind of vibe, which perfectly encapsulates everything this cafe is about. Buddha Bowl is a vegan cafe that sticks to its guns – everything on the menu is vegan with no alternatives. When I asked for my flat white, regular milk was simply not an option, so I went with almond. Unfortunately they don’t serve banana bread, so I opted for a yummy pistachio cookie which was also a hit with the toddler. The no-BB curveball and the toddler desperately wanting some cookie distracted me, so when my coffee arrived I took a sip and was like “Yeah, it’s coffee, 0”, but I’d actually completely forgotten it was almond milk – and you know how I feel about non-dairy milk. It was a fine, decently average coffee and I didn’t even notice the almond! When I remembered a minute or so later, and consciously tasted for it, I could tell, but it was so subtle and tasted so normal that I was really impressed. You go, Buddha Bowl – you do what you do and you do it like a boss.
