Do all IKEAs have a cafe? I don’t mean the automatic machines where you press the button over your little pre-paid mug. I’m pretty sure they all have those. I mean a real-ish cafe, with an espresso machine and a barista (or two, this time), that will actually serve you a real coffee and a banana bread. The coffee was a little on the obscenely-hot side, but it didn’t taste overboiled and it was definitely a real coffee – a far better option than the self-serve machines only a few metres away. And they certainly don’t serve banana bread from the cafeteria-style kitchen where you can line up with your tray and the best baked good you’ll be walking out with is a tiny, dry, cinnamon scroll. But this, like the coffee, was a real banana bread, not a $1 IKEAfied version. It was also, like the coffee, obscenely hot, and a little too sweet, but it had a fresh bananery flavour and I was impressed! Real coffee, real banana bread, IKEA… who knew?
