While Ferah claims to be both a cafe and restaurant, it’s primarily a Turkish restaurant specialising in sit-down, banquet-style dining with gorgeous ambience and beautiful presentation. I felt a bit awkward walking into a restaurant to order a takeaway coffee, but the girl who served me and made my coffee was absolutely lovely – good service makes such a difference. On my way to the counter, I walked past a couple having lunch and their table looked like something from a fairy tale. I haven’t eaten here, so I can’t judge the food, but it looked pretty special to say the least. I wondered if, given the authentic Turkish vibes, I might have the option of getting a middle-eastern-style sweet, black coffee made in one of those little stovetop pots, like they serve at Cairo Takeaway. I guess not if you’re after a little takeaway in your keep cup, but probably if I’d just eaten a fantasy fairytale banquet.
So the coffee was pretty unremarkable – weak and milky with no discernibly unique flavour. This is pretty much what I get most places. I really shouldn’t settle for calling this average, but it’s so common that anything better blows my mind and gets a 1. And sadly there was no banana bread, so I settled for a very refrigerated and very sweet blueberry friand. I’m no friand expert, but it wasn’t great. So it was a pretty “meh” experience as far as regular coffee and bakery treats are concerned, but remind me to come back here for a Turkish coffee, some baklava and a hookah.
