They don’t have a name. They don’t have a menu. The don’t really have anywhere to sit nor much going for them stylistically in their apartment-block-foyer location. So when the manager/barista asked me, “How’s the coffee?” I felt kinda bad how surprised I sounded when I said “Yeah, it’s actually really good!” I could taste the coffee. It’s kinda pathetic that’s all it takes to impress me these days, but after hundreds of hot milks with a hint of coffee, one done right really stands out. It wasn’t amazing flavour-wise, but it was well executed and definitely better than expected. The banana bread was very sweet, which I’m usually not into, but it had a nice caramelly brownness to it and a good flavour. I was surprised to find it packed full of little melty choc chips. I’m definitely not into chocolate for breakfast, or chocolate where it doesn’t belong, but this banana bread still managed to hold onto its identity as a banana bread without losing itself to the chocolotastic group. Sweet, but good. R was certainly far from being a “restaurant and cafe”, but I was pleasantly surprised nonetheless.
