There’s a Little Tanya in every family: loud, sticky and unattractive. I might be able to overlook her lack of visual appeal if she served me an awesome coffee, but that was looking less likely by the second. Turns out the coffee was a lot like the one I had at her neighbour’s place, Chill Cafe. You could definitely taste it, but not in a good way. It had that weird percolatey flavour (I think I’m just tasting cheap beans gone stale), with a sludge. The banana bread was fairly generic and familiar-tasting, but not too bad. There’s this rubbery, springy texture that some banana breads have, which I’m sure is due to some particular addition to the recipe, corn starch or something, but I don’t know enough about baking to identify it. This one was like that, but on the whole, remarkably palatable. Nevertheless, I can’t say I’m too keen on catching up with Little Tanya again anytime soon.
