First impressions: “Wow, look at this cool vintage place!” But then the very next thing you see is a tacked-on sign over the doorway saying “Licensed Venue” in an incongruent style, partially obscuring the authentic restored signage. Weird. Are you that desperate to appeal to Glebe’s spectrum of functional alcoholics? Don’t get me wrong, I love a cafe-turned-bar (like my faves The Wedge and Dirty Red), but a big sign pointing it out kinda removes some of the secret appeal. And my suspicions were confirmed with an unremarkable coffee. The BB was ok, darkish and honeyish, but a little on the sweet side. It’s like this was an authentic Glebe cafe at some point, when someone saw fit to restore its vintage charm, but has since been overwritten with “cheap cafe” content. Bit of a shame, but at least the current management is putting in a decent effort. Could be worse.
