Having opened its doors in 1982, back when an exclusively vegetarian restaurant was progressive and rare, Badde Manors is the kind of place that made Glebe cool. I can literally remember my Grandma raving about it 30 years ago. I also love that it’s open late and I’ve enjoyed many good times in their oddly-shaped booths with friends and sticky chai at 11pm. However, despite their art-laden walls and undeniably cool decor, perhaps after 40 years, they’ve just become part of the furniture. My coffee was disappointingly average, as was the banana bread – it had a decent enough flavour but was a little dry. Definitely visit Badde Manors to soak up some iconic Glebe charm and hoe into some homestyle vegetarian goodness, but there are better options for your regular takeaway.
