Khamsa is a bright, open air, vegan middle eastern cafe that opens up onto a little laneway courtyard just off King St. On a sunny summer’s day, it’s positively beachy. There was a beautiful array of vegan baked goods and middle eastern pastries on offer and I was keen to try, well, everything. The banana bread was a little loaf like they serve at the Boathouse, only for a fraction of the price. Though it was meant to be a banana blueberry loaf, I think it was actually apple cinnamon, but it was smooth, moist and delicious nonetheless with a nice, light sweetness. I also indulged in a cardamom cinnamon roll, which was soft, fresh and fluffy with a heavenly hint of spice. The milk options were soy, macadamia or coconut, which are my kind of substitutes – the decadent kind. I jumped at the opportunity to have macadamia milk since you don’t see it everyday. The last good macadamia milk coffee I had was at Harry’s Bondi, where they press their own. This wasn’t quite that good, but it certainly wasn’t bad, and they pulled off the milk substitute well. Khamsa definitely provided a pleasant experience overall, and I’d love to come back to try more of their middle eastern pastries and soak up the sun in their outdoor seating.
