I get that Cambodge is French for Cambodia, but it doesn’t make for a great cafe name. It sounds a little “bodgy”. From the outside, it looked like they were going for a bit of a French style, in which case call it Cafe Francais, not Cafe Cambodge, right? With slightly under-res signage, and “homestyle” menus stuck to the wall around the front door, I wasn’t expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. There were coconuts and bamboo on the inside with an authentic signature menu on the wall listing drinks like “True Cambodian” and “Mum’s Favourite”. Unlike its faux-French exterior, inside it was a cute little homage to the owner’s Cambodian heritage, and my coffee and BB were served with a big smile. Cafe Cambodge has such a high exposure, urban location with plenty of shady, outdoor seating and on such a beautiful day, I actually found myself wanting to sit for a while. Unfortunately, my coffee had a bit of a stale taste, and the BB was a small, greasy thing that I’ve come across a few times before. So… maybe I’ll come back for something else.
