I’ve been to many cafes that have resembled loungerooms in some way: Dirty Red’s bustling urban-chic terrace, Shots’ strangely over-personal little quirks, the Garden Lounge’s “hoarder” vibe, but Cocoa & Coffee is the most like home I’ve ever felt in a cafe.
Apart from the counter in the front room, it’s a very normal-looking, rambling inner west terrace, cluttered with plants and vintage furniture. Sitting at the table on the back porch was just like being at a friend’s house. The coffee was decent and the banana bread tasted as fresh and homemade as if I’d made it myself (and it had actually worked out). My only criticism was that it was a little bit vanilla, and not especially banana-packed, but it was delicious nonetheless. Being so authentically homemade, I’m sure it’s subject to a lot of variety, so I’d love to come back and try it again, especially given that my overall experience was so positive.
