So, one doesn’t normally come to a cancer treatment centre for a takeaway coffee and banana bread. And no, I don’t have cancer, nor am I visiting anyone who does, but I do live pretty close to the RPAH and don’t always have time to take a long detour via Store (although I’ve gone out of my way plenty of times to do just that). Well now I really feel like scum for coming here purely out of laziness. Nevertheless… Bustling and sunny, modern and airy, the Lifehouse cafe was exactly what it needs to be. Lots of staff on hand made light work of the morning rush, so I wasn’t waiting long, and there was a wide range of quality bakery goods available. They even had a small kitchen and were serving real food with table service. My coffee was on the better side of average and the banana bread was large, darkly spiced and had a nice springy texture, although it was too sweet and had a hint of fake banana flavour. But overall, everything was good – actually probably better than my brief stop via Beloli (the neighbouring cafe) last week. But I won’t be coming back here, I hope. A dad carrying a toddler with a nasal tube hit a little too close to home and I left with the sober reminder that while I’m here sharing frivolous opinions on banana bread, real people are dealing with real life.
