Right down the south end of King St, there’s a cafe called South End, proudly displaying a large artwork on the wall about the suburb of Newtown with a prominent 2042 postcode… except South End isn’t actually in Newtown. After the Union Hotel, South End’s side of King St actually falls into Erskineville, while the shops on the other side of the road are still considered Newtown. Awkies, haha! But I’ll stop having a go – South End is a nice enough little cafe. They bake their own banana bread in house (which is fairly impressive itself) and it was fantastically smooth but a little bland. The coffee wasn’t bad, just a little plain, like the banana bread. Overall, I’d say South End is a nice enough place to stop if you’re in the area, but nothing worth travelling all the way to Erskineville for 😉
