If you’re walking through Victoria Park and all you can smell is burnt toast, don’t worry, you’re not having a stroke, it’s just the Toby’s Estate mega roastery roasting away. The cafe here at the roastery is very cool, offering special tasting events and other fun things, so their cafe is inside out – the pick up counter is up the back and the barista is down the front, back to the customers so you can see exactly what they’re doing. The seating is in front of a huge window that looks straight into the heart of the roastery factory. It’s a big operation, with lots of machinery, which is fun to watch, especially for the toddler. I was able to teach him about the whole farm to cup coffee cycle! It almost goes without saying that my coffee was absolutely impeccable – I could taste the distinctive notes of the beans, even in a flat white. That’s what I’m looking for! And the banana bread was equally professional. I love that they actually have a banana bread, as opposed to some specialty coffee places that focus so much on the coffee that they don’t provide much in the way of supplementary bakery items, like Campos, which, to be fair, does provide some nice high-quality delicacies, but if they stocked banana bread I’d literally be there every day. So the whole Toby’s Estate experience – the factory and barista insights with the perfect pairing of coffee and banana bread – was exactly what I’m all about. I should come here every day.
