Cafe 101 wouldn’t be my first choice for a cafe outing. For a start, it’s inside the Alexandria Homemaker Centre, but I guess I’m a homemaker, so here I am. The coffee was not well executed. I burnt my tongue first, then tasted that thick overboiled milk flavour. The banana bread was kinda ok, in theory. It had the right texture, nice and soft, not too sweet or greasy… but there was a floury/battery undertone that pointed to something gone wrong. At least Cafe 101 aptly got the very basics right: location, location, location. They’re right next to the Homemaker Centre’s indoor playground with big couches and cool modular rocking chairs, not facing one another, but directly facing the playground. They know their customers aren’t there to catch up with friends, or even for the coffee or food. They’re there for only one reason. I’m not happy with the fare, but with two toddlers, I’m very happy indeed.
