When taking the babies to the beach, I usually have enough to carry without stopping for a coffee and banana bread, but I managed to score a fantastic 4P free beach spot right next to this sunny little coffee kiosk on the street underneath Bathers Coogee. The coffee was Seven Mile and executed perfectly with a nice, rich flavour. There were some great beachy vibes going on with funky music and semi-shaded sunshine. The barista was such a friendly character, too. He tossed over a free babyccino, had a little boogie with the babies and pointed out a migrating whale blowing up seaspray straight out at sea from where we were standing. What a fantastic kiosk experience. Unfortunately the banana bread was sub-par. It was huge and thick-sliced, but had a very inconsistent texture that was stodgy in some places and crumbly in others, with a powdery crust. You could see the swirl where it looked like it hadn’t been mixed quite well enough. It was also under-sweet and really lacking in flavour, like it was missing some key ingredients – there was definitely something wrong. The toddler was hungry, so he was super keen for it to begin with, but after a few bites he said, sadly, “I don’t want it.” But we still had a great time, and the location made it all worthwhile.
