Elbow Room used to be my local a very long time ago. They had a cool chef who was unusually good at executing homely cafe fare with a slight twist of elegance. I was pleased (and also slightly disappointed – I liked the guy) to see that he was still here after so many years. As well as having a better-than-average chef, Elbow Room also cared more-than-average about their coffee, so I wasn’t entirely surprised to see packets of their own house blend on the counter. Their menu even had specific tasting notes about the flavours I should expect in my coffee. And they were on the money – yes, I could taste notes of berry. The coffee was excellent! 10 years or so ago, these guys were really on fire, following the coffee scene like pros and cupping some of the best coffees from around the globe. Perhaps they’re not what they once were, but they still definitely have an edge. Great house blend, great chef, and although the banana bread wasn’t baked in house, it was still good. Miss you guys, Elbow Room, but I just don’t often find myself in Chatswood anymore.
