Sometimes you’re just in a busy semi-urban Westfield with very few options, so I tried out Coco Madness because I wasn’t game enough to go to the Three Beans after my experience at their Broadway branch. But Coco Madness wasn’t exactly a fantastic alternative. Even in a small, the coffee was too milky. I could barely taste the coffee, so there must’ve been something wrong with the shot – maybe undertamped or too coarse a grind. All the cakes in the counter looked very mass-produced so unsurprisingly the banana bread was excessively artificially sweet, like a little square of defrosted Sara Lee banana cake from the 90s. I felt like I was basically drinking a glass of milk with a banana lolly – is this a cafe or after school care? If they’d been going for a retro milkbar vibe, perhaps it would’ve at least been contextual, but none of it was good. And I’m actually really surprised, because Coco Madness has been in this very busy, high-exposure spot for years and years, so I guess business must be pretty good anyway! What madness.
