I’ve had a really good run with cafes in Balmoral, so I was a little hesitant to try this little takeaway kiosk since there are so many seemingly better options. But this time I didn’t have the pram and needed the convenience of being right next to the playground, so we just toddled on over and were pleasantly surprised. Everything stocked in the windows looked tasteful and the menu options were surprisingly cafe-quality. They served real food, not just chico rolls. My coffee was good, and so was the banana bread, even though everything manages to get gritty when you mix food, children and sand. The banana bread was one I don’t come across very often – heavy on the spice and sweetened with a honeyish flavour. It tasted a bit like a Honey Jumble. Delish! Little Island Hungry Sea certainly taught me never to judge a cafe by its size, or kioskness. It’s a real cafe, and being located right next to the playground makes it a very compelling option when I take the babies to Balmoral Beach.
