I ventured over the road to Societe on King when I was at Sydney Park one day, hoping for something a little better than The Kiosk. The sign promised Ona beans so my hopes were high, but perhaps that didn’t do me any favours because it didn’t quite hit the mark I’ve come to expect from anything bearing Ona’s label. It was a decent well-executed flat white, so I couldn’t really fault it, it just didn’t ooze with fantastic flavour like I hoped it would. My hopes were high again when the chef told me they baked their banana bread in-house, since this is a somewhat rare and fortunate thing! But again, it just didn’t hit the mark. It looked like a good, commercial-grade banana bread, but it tasted like vanilla cake with a couple of blueberries in it. The babies were keen for the blueberries so I took note: there were literally only three berries in the whole slice. I mean, that’s fine, it’s not blueberry bread, but why even bother? It wasn’t too bad though. It tasted like a fresh, house-baked vanilla cake with a nice texture, not too greasy, not too sweet, just not very bananery and with a couple of bonus berries to boot. While I didn’t have an amazing takeaway experience, it’s still definitely worth considering Societe on King a viable option when visiting Sydney Park.
